The Right Light

Standard

Sometimes having the responsibility of making sure a couple’s wedding goes off without a hitch can be quite overwhelming. My clients depend on me to make sure timing is adhered to, vendors execute and everything flows. As a wedding planner, 99 percent of the ownership of an event Is on you! It’s a lot of stress to carry.

What I find truly helps is to surround myself with the right people. Having a go-to handy solutions person around during an event set up is super important.

The amount of difficult situations that I have found myself in over the years – I can seriously write a book about. Some examples:

-showing up the venue on the morning of the event + the whole sidewalk in front of the venued has been dug out

-a table holding the $2000 wedding cake collapsed + falls on the floor

– the daughter of an older bride steals a bottle of tequila from the bar + drinks it to the last sip then storms back into her mother’s wedding + makes a fool out of herself

-a power outage occurs in the middle of the first dance

-‎the ovens stop working in the middle of dinner service

-‎a chandelier is wrongly installed, falls + shatters

– etc etc etc

There are soooo many unforeseen situations that can arise at any given point throughout a wedding. As a wedding planner for 8 years now, I have literally mastered the art of ‘improvisation’ and ‘fast-solving solutions’. And one of the reasons I am so adept at this is due to the fact that I have great relationships with amazing vendors! I pretty much know who to call for any given situation or how to get it done on my own. It also truly helps to have the best, most competent and resourceful colleague ‎in the world – Leora Shammas. Leora can literally do anything!!! And I mean anything.

Another vendor who is seriously dependable, honest, helpful ‎and incredibly amazing is Scott Hamilton, owner of Eventex Productions. Scott and his staff  are also masters of lighting design, sound engineering, curtain decor, staging set ups, and so much more! Eventex’s attention to detail, clean set ups + willingness to go above and beyond is unlike any other company.

Here are some photos of beautiful events that I have created together with Eventex.

Best thing about working with a vendor like Eventex they know my expectations and how I like certain things to be done and especially what my favorite colour of lighting is: AMBER !

Lighting and sound are sooooo important for so many reasons:

  • Lighting fills a space and creates atmospheres.
  • It also highlights certain components of a wedding (floral centerpieces, ‎head table, a speech-giver, an entertainer, etc)
  • Bad sound can really fatigue guests
  • Great sound can add to the impact of a certain performer or speech.

Another very important point is to have a sound + lighting technician on site during the entire event. Adjusting the lighting + sound for different moments truly helps with the flow of an event.

Another wonderful company to work with whose owner is one of the most creative people in our industry is Total Events. You have not seen brilliance until you work with Lorne.
