THE BLING RING!

Standard

Being a wedding planner means seeing a lot of rings…and I mean a lot of rings!  I can appreciate each and every one and absolutely love the stories behind the rings but I was never the type of girl who loved diamonds or owned any really pricey jewelry items.  I was more the type to own thousands of different accessories from big earrings to chunky necklaces to rings, hats and scarves….all that I picked up from random places & street corners around the world.

So when Jason started asking me what I wanted in terms of an engagement ring a year ago, I had no answer for him. Actually – it was more like I never could have imagined him creating a piece of jewelry that I would love for the next 50+ years. It’s not an easy task!  Jason has a very traditional side & appreciates simple elegance and as much as he knows me well and gets my eccentric side, I would have expected him to come home with a beautiful classic solitaire.  Boy, was I wrong!

I came across a beautiful vintage ring in an antique shop on Notre-Dame two summers ago which belonged to a deceased lady (why she did not take the ring to her grave, I do not know!)….Every few weeks or so while picking up a coffee at Lili & Oli, I would stop in and admire it.  And on one of those occasions, I made sure to bring Jason with me and also made sure to gush about it over and over! Jason can always tell when I really want something because I become overdramatic about it (I have been known to kiss inanimate objects like shoes or purses when I fall in love with them).

Long story short…..Jason took his inspiration from that ring and created an even more amazing one from it. It’s no joke the most beautiful thing I have ever seen  and I still can’t stop looking at it at least once every 20 minutes.

He could have never put this masterpiece together without the help of the sweetest Armenian jeweler Diran (who by the way, I also kissed when I met him for the first time!). Diran is the owner of  Diran Imports, a family run jewelry business that has been around for 32 years and specializes in custom diamond jewelry.

Jason gave me the lowdown on the process:

  • First Consultation & Idea generation
  • Diamond education & selection
  • Autocad Drawing of the Ring
  • Wax Mold of the Ring
  • Production & Delivery of Ring
  • PROPOSAL!

GENTLEMEN, I don’t doubt that the ring-finding process is one of the most intimidating and nerve-wracking of all but if you want to create something original, within budget, using the best diamonds and have someone walk you through every detail….you should definitely see my friend Diran.

Now when I look at my brides’ rings, I can usually tell they are a Diran masterpiece because they have something a little more special about them.

A note about Jason’s proposal:  He got down on one knee on the side of our bed about 5 minutes after we woke up on a Sunday morning in May.  He didn’t say much but the ring said it all. Wearing a bad case of morning breath, nerdy glasses, ugly pjs, and messy hair, I said YES and to me, it was the most perfect proposal.
